Lewisham Mental Health in Learning Disabilities Service
The Lewisham MHLD service provides community-based psychiatric and psychological assessment, advice and treatment for people, aged over 18, who have mental health problems and learning disabilities and live in the London Borough of Lewisham. We care for adults with mental health problems and learning disabilities who may have emotional, behavioural, and social, communication or physical difficulties. We provide care for people with mental health problems and complex needs including behaviours that challenge.
We are a multi-professional team including psychologists, behavioural support specialists, nurses and psychiatrists. We work with other health and social care teams as part of the Mental Health Learning Disability Service (MHLD) Neurodevelopment Division.
We provide mental health assessments, therapy and advice on services and treatment options to help people with learning disabilities maintain their health and independence.

Lewisham Psychiatric Liaison Team
Lewisham Liaison team is for people, aged 18-65, the service provide a comprehensive assessment and liaison service to people who are experiencing mental health difficulties who attend the Emergency Department (ED) and who are admitted to the Clinical Decision Unit (CDU) of UHL.

Lewisham Service User Network (SUN Project)
We offer crisis and peer support groups for adults in Lewisham with emotional and relationship difficulties.
What is SUN?
Lewisham Service User Network (SUN) is a community-based support group for adults experiencing difficulties with complex emotional needs. SUN aims to empower people to problem solve their current struggles – emotional, relational, social, and practical.
Who can join SUN?
You can refer yourself to Lewisham SUN Project if you are an adult who lives in Lewisham, or if you are registered with a Lewisham GP. We welcome people from all sorts of backgrounds to learn from each other’s experiences.
How the group works
Each group runs for two-and-a-half hours with breaks. We offer a mixture of online and in-person groups. You can attend Lewisham SUN groups as often or as little as you wish. SUN groups offer peer support. Members both offer and receive support at different times. Two health professionals facilitate the group. All of the support provided by Lewisham SUN Project happens within the groups themselves, in a confidential and safe space. New members are helped to complete a Crisis and Support Plan (CASP). A CASP sets out the steps you take to cope with stress and any challenges in life, so that the group knows how best to support you in times of crisis.

Lewisham Young People's Service (LYPS)
The Lewisham Young People's Service (LYPS)is part of Lewisham Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS). We provide assessment and treatment for children and young people, up to the age of 18, registered with a GP in Lewisham.
Our service is for children and young people who have ongoing severe and complex problems for some time that significantly affect their daily life.
We also offer an early intervention service to young people who are experiencing psychosis. A person with a psychotic illness will experience a different view of reality compared to how others see it. This can affect how they think, feel, things they hear and things they see Ð often with symptoms of hallucinations and delusions.

Our team is made up of a number of people from different backgrounds. Maudsley Centre for Child and Adolescent Eating Disorders
The Maudsley Centre for Child and Adolescent Eating Disorders (MCCAED) is renowned worldwide for the psychological treatments it offers to children and adolescents with eating and feeding disorders.
Our team combines a highly specialist knowledge in eating disorders with expertise in evidence-based treatments which support families to use their strengths and skills to support their child overcome an eating disorder.
Our services:
The Eating Disorders Clinic
The Eating Disorders Clinic serves children and teens who live locally, and are registered to a GP in Bexley, Bromley, Croydon, Greenwich, Lambeth, Lewisham or Southwark. It offers treatment for all eating disorders except ARFID and feeding disorders, which are treated in our other clinics.
Our outpatient service is accessible and responsive. If you think you need help you can simply make a self-referral , or if you are a family member you can refer a loved one . If you are a professional (e.g. school nurse or GP) please refer here . You can also call us during our office hours (Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm) on 020 3228 2545.
We aim to see all routine referrals within 28 days, urgent referrals within 7 days, and emergency referrals within 24 hours. If in doubt, please do not hesitate to refer.
Intensive Treatment Programme:
The Intensive Treatment Programme (ITP) is a day programme for young people who are already in treatment for an eating disorder, but need a bit of extra support.
At ITP, we see under 18s living in England who have an eating disorder and feel like their treatment is not progressing despite everyone's best efforts. ITP is a day programme so young people and family members need to be able to commute daily to ITP.
If you have not been treated for an eating disorder before, we always suggest contacting your local specialist service before even thinking about ITP. For most people, this is more than enough.
If you are already in treatment and still feel that you need more support, ITP might be for you. Just ask your practitioner to get in touch with us.
The ARFID Clinic
Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder, or ARFID, is very different from anorexia nervosa and other eating disorders. The ARFID and Related Disorders Clinic offers targeted treatment for ARFID and other feeding disorders. We provide detailed assessments and specialised therapy for children and teens with various avoidant or restrictive eating behaviours.
We know that different people struggle with their food intake for different reasons. Medication Support service (Croydon)
Croydon Medication Support Service- (CMSS) plays a key part in the Recovery Pathway and works in close collaboration with the Promoting Recovery Teams and Primary Care Mental Health Support Service within the Promoting Recovery Pathway.
Cohort Ð adults from 18-65
CMSS provides a Borough wide service to support individuals with severe and enduring mental illness with a primary diagnosis of psychosis who require professional support to manage their wellbeing. Service users fall into the cohort of people who are stable and at low risk of relapse. However, this group cannot move back to primary care because of the complexity of their medications.
Referrals to the service will be primarily via community teams within the Psychosis CAG or exceptionally, people with bipolar from the MAP CAG
Medication support/interventions includes:- Recovery interventions, fostering independence and autonomy including interventions such as coaching, problem solving, motivational interview, etc.
- Early signs and symptoms recognition and management of symptoms
- Clozapine Initiation
- Psycho-education for Service Users and Carers
- Social support: working with service users to support them with accessing community resources, social and leisure activities
- Monitoring and ensuring physical health needs are addressed
- Appropriate Medication review and management
- Identifying substance use issues and signposting/liaising with relevant services/agencies
- Assistance/signposting to access suitable accommodation
- Signposting regarding information about Direct Payments or Advocacy Services
- Compulsory interventions using the Mental Health Act 1983
- Vocational support/signposting: assistance in accessing agencies that offer training and development opportunities such as college courses

Memory Service (Croydon)

Memory Service (Lambeth and Southwark)
The Southwark and Lambeth Integrated Memory Service (SLIMS) offers comprehensive assessment, treatment and support options to anyone over the age of 18 with mild to moderate memory problems likely to indicate dementia.
Our multidisciplinary team, work in collaboration with the Alzheimer's Society. We offer a comprehensive assessment package based on the principles of recovery and are committed to supporting carers of people with dementia.
Following assessment, we coordinate individualised care planning. This may include prescribing medication if appropriate, post diagnostic support and signposting, problem solving strategies, and individual or group therapy which is offered for both clients and carers. We can also organise for continuous follow up though our dementia advisors.

Mental Health Learning Disabilities Team (Lambeth)
The Behavioural and Developmental Psychiatry Clinical Academic Group, is committed to meeting the mental health care needs of people with a learning disability.
1. Service Description
The provision of Mental Health Learning Disability (MHLD) is an essential part of services provided by SLAM. MHLD teams are largely community based and support mainstream inpatient and community mental health services and social care teams to ensure the best clinical outcomes for adults with learning disabilities and mental health problems by bringing together specialist skills in psychiatry, psychology and nursing. Working within the agreed service level agreements the teams provide:
The Mental Health in Learning Disability Service aims to provide evidence-based services to people with learning disabilities and additional health needs who are registered with General Practitioners affiliated to the Lambeth, Lewisham Croydon and Southwark Clinical Commissioning Groups.
The Estia Centre is an education & training and research and development team that works alongside MHLD to support its functions.
Services encapsulated under Mental Health of Learning Disabilities (MHLD) are those that respond to aspects of a person which are affected when their mental wellbeing has deteriorated into:- Mental illness
- Psychological disorders (same as mainstream psychological services)
- Significant challenging behaviour
The trust provides specialist multidisciplinary mental health services to adults with learning disabilities who present with these difficulties and whose needs cannot be adequately met by Adult Mental Health Services (with support from MHLD). These services are delivered via partnerships with Guys & St Thomas' NHS Trust, Social Services and the four CCGs, and other agencies to enable people to remain in their local communities.
2. Purpose
The B&D CAG aims to ensure that high quality evidence based care is available and accessible to people with a learning disability that have mental health problems and that best possible clinical outcomes are available. We aim to develop and provide a specialist service in line with the draft service model for commissioners of health and social care services 'Supporting people with a learning disability and / or autism who have a mental health condition or display behaviour that challenges' July 2015Service focus:
- To work with those with the most complex needs who need a specialist MHLD service, and doing this in partnership with the wider MDT, the person and their support network
- Working with other services to make reasonable adjustments by sharing our expertise through consultation, training and education
- Focus on prevention and helping people to stay well in their local community
- Being responsive at times of crisis
