South Asia is rich in culture, from bright and beautiful traditions to delicious meals, there are a vast range of admirable components for us to embrace and get to know more about. Here in Britain, we can see the incredible impact of South Asian culture through arts, our clothing options, and the food we choose to eat. South Asian heritage month is a great opportunity for us to show appreciation, acknowledgement, and celebrate South Asian culture.

Ethnic clothing is a big part of Indian culture and offers a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of art and design that has been passed on for generations. Women have worn ethnic clothing with great pride and charisma for centuries. Indian ethic wear is very diverse and can vary according to the regional needs, locally available raw material, art forms, and traditions.

South Asian Heritage Month runs from 18 July to 17 August, and we are celebrating the stories that make up our diverse organisation and vibrant local communities. 

Maxine Gayle, Community Matron at South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, attended the NHS Big Tea alongside the Prince and Princess of Wales and NHS Chief Executive Amanda Pritchard to celebrate NHS 75. 

To mark Windrush 75 today, Roslyn Walcott-Cumberbatch, General Manager at the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, kindly shares her family story which spans three generations of women who have worked for the NHS.
