Synonymous with clinical and academic excellence in psychiatry and with nearly 70 years of experience, we are internationally recognised as a centre for high quality, reliable psychiatric training. We have a track record of Maudsley trained alumni successfully securing senior clinical and academic posts both nationally and internationally.
Undergraduates and doctors in training are able to access a wide range of clinical posts and teaching methods, with tailored training programmes.
Our Trust, in collaboration with Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust, South West London and St George’s NHS Trust, and King’s College London, offers one of the largest programmes of postgraduate medical education in the country.
There are 127 posts on the core programme rotation, offered through our Trust and Oxleas, which include:
The training scheme delivers the curriculum for Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists through clinical training and a full day a week of teaching including didactic lectures and seminars, psychotherapy discussion groups, journal clubs, grand rounds and small group clinical skills (simulation) training.
Core trainees are allocated a clinical and educational supervisor to support their clinical and academic development, including participation in workplace based placed training and assessments. You will be supported to gain your Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and pass through the national Annual Review of Competency Progression (ARCP) criteria.
The higher training schemes encompass a wide range of posts in a variety of settings across south and south east London, offering experience in clinical, research, therapeutic skills and management domains. Trainees are allocated an educational supervisor who oversees their training throughout the duration of their higher training which lasts a minimum of three years.
Training can be focused around the career aims and training needs, and preferences for training post allocations can be expressed. Protected time for special interest sessions and weekly or monthly teaching is a key aspect of scheme. Higher trainees are also involved in teaching their junior medical colleagues as well other health professionals including on the MRCPsych course at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (IoPPN).
