Our Council of Governors acts as a link between service users, carers, staff, the general public and the Trust's Board of Directors.
They support the Board of Directors in setting the long-term vision for our organisation, and hold the non-executive directors to account for the actions of the Board. Our Board of Directors has a duty to consult, and listen to the views of, the Council of Governors.
I want to ensure that service users, carers and members are properly consulted and involved in how the Trust is run, fairly represented, their views put forward, their involvement benefiting all including staff and partners. Good involvement enables better understanding of service user needs, better decisions and better services. I will support carers to develop their leadership role and to play a unique but equal part in bringing about transformation.
I believe I will bring a range of relevant experience and skills as a governor. As a carer for over 20 years I have significant understanding and experience of carer-related issues and am a member of local and national carer organisations.
As a former commissioner I understand the challenges of delivering quality improvement with increasingly constrained resources but firmly believe that collaborative partnership working can bring about effective change. As a chair and governor observer I have actively promoted information exchange and closer working relationships both within and across the Trust.
Now in my second term as a governor, I believe I have made effective and meaningful contributions to supporting trustwide development and improvement by challenging and guiding the Board on behalf of the carer constituency ensuring that carers are considered a key resource; their significant role is acknowledged and valued; their views and concerns are fairly represented to improve services, user experience, health outcomes; are effectively involved in decision making by influencing policy, strategy design, delivery and review for the benefit of all Trust stakeholders.
