Aims
- To enable participants to consider a potential range of manifestations and characteristics of autism in women
- To develop a greater understanding of how to support autistic women
Target Audience
Target Audience
- Support workers, care assistants, day centre support staff, personal assistants
- Participants should already have a good understanding of Autism or who have good experience of supporting auttsic adults. Ideally they will have completed Tier 2 Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism (or equivalent).
Learning Outcomes
- Critique the reasons why fewer women than men might be diagnosed autistic
- Examine the importance of diagnosis
- Recognise differences in social communication and interaction for autistic women
- Demonstrate understanding of sensory differences
- Identify vulnerability and risk for autistic women
- Develop a range of strategies to support autistic women
