New Non Executive Directors appointed at South London and Maudsley
Helen Evans and Nitin Mehta have been appointed as a Non-Executive Directors, and Bandi Mbubi as an Associate Non-Executive Director at South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust and will take up their roles in April 2022.
David Bradley, Chief Executive of South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust said: “On behalf of the Trust, I am very pleased to welcome Bandi, Helen and Nitin to their Non-Executive Director roles.
“Our new appointees have a wealth of experience in roles across the charity sector, local authority and mental health and will be a real asset to our Board and the people we serve.”
South London and Maudsley is also very pleased to welcome Professor Sir Simon Wessely to his position as a Non-Executive Director as he is Interim Executive Dean of the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (IoPPN) King's College London.

Professor Sir Simon Wessely
Simon Wessely is a psychiatrist and epidemiologist. He started his psychiatry training at the Maudsley in 1984, and joined King’s College School of Medicine, as it was then called in 1991. He has been at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neurosciences, King’s College London, ever since. He did pre-clinical at Trinity Hall Cambridge, with a BA in History of Art, and then BM BCH at University College Oxford. His Masters and Doctorate are in epidemiology.
He is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, Royal College of Psychiatrists and Academy of Medical Sciences. In 2021 he became a Fellow of the Royal Society (FRS). His is the first ever Regius Chair to be appointed at KCL, and the first Regius Chair of Psychiatry in this country. He established the King’s Centre for Military Health Research in 1996, and remains the Co-director, and since 2013 has been the Director of the PHE NIHR Health Protection Unit for Emergency Response and Preparedness, which has been very active during the COVID-19 crisis.
He is a Past President of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and the Royal Society of Medicine. Between 2017-19 he led the Independent Review of the Mental Health Act, which paved the way for new legislation in 2022.

Bandi Mbubi
Bandi Mbubi has worked for the past 25 years at the intersection of human rights and social justice, leading and managing organisations tackling mental health problems, homelessness, poverty and inequalities, gross human rights abuses and corruption.
Through his advocacy work, he has been a leading voice in mobilising policy makers and public opinion to demand greater corporate accountability as a tool to improve human rights in the global economy. He has held various advisory and board roles and in 2016 the BBC’s Outlook Programme named him as one of its Top 50 Inspirations. He is Director of the Manna Society, Trustee of Hilden Charitable Fund, and Member of Harvard Kennedy School’s Implementing Public Policy Community of Practice.
Helen Evans
Helen Evans has worked in housing for over 30 years starting out in the housing department at Southwark Council. She then worked her way around several London councils rising through the ranks to become Chief Executive at Brent Housing Partnership (BHP), an ALMO for Brent Council, in 2002. She joined Network Housing Group (now Network Homes) in 2010 as a Director of Operations before becoming Chief Executive in 2011.
Helen oversaw Network’s amalgamation from a group of housing associations into one organisation in 2016 and was Chair of the G15 Group of London’s largest housing associations between 2019 and 2021.
Nitin Mehta
With over 11 years of experience at TUI Group where he was part of the Senior Leadership Team and a member of various executive boards, Nitin Mehta brings extensive commercial, strategy, analytics and finance experience to South London and Maudsley. Nitin will chair the Audit Committee.
Nitin is a qualified accountant with a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, an MBA and a Masters in Finance from London Business School.
