Hosted by the Mental Health Foundation, this year’s theme is ‘loneliness’. South London and Maudsley is encouraging communities to build meaningful connections with various events happening across the week and throughout the month.

The pandemic had a big impact on the mental health of our communities, with many people experiencing feeling of loneliness and isolation, compounded by being confined to our homes and seeing loved ones less.

David Bradley, Chief Executive of South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, said:  “The theme of Mental Health Awareness Week is loneliness which impacts many of the people we provide care and treatment for and was exacerbated by the pandemic. There is a huge amount of work going on in our communities to address loneliness and as an organisation we’re committed to tackling isolation through many of our programmes, including South London Listens.”

Dr Michael Holland, Medical Director, said, “If you need help for yourself or your loved ones in order to obtain support to cope with any changes you’ve had with your mental health there are services and resources which can help you.”
