Speaking Truth to Power
As part of the Trust strategy to becoming an anti-racism organisation by 2026, the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion team organised an exciting conference to support the Trust to succeed with their ambitious goal.
At the Speaking Truth to Power Conference, held at ORTUS Learning & Events Centre, Denmark Hill Campus, we heard some powerful stories and reflections from guest speakers including Roger Kline, author of ‘Snowy White Peaks’ and the recent report ‘Too Hot to Handle', and Dr Joan Myers OBE, who is an advisor to the Chief Nursing Officer for England and BME Leadership coach in the NHS.
Our Chief Executive David Bradley said:
Reflecting on the event, I feel it was extremely thought provoking and is a reminder of how much more we must do to become an anti-racism organisation. It was also an excellent chance to celebrate the contributions that we are all able to make, regardless of ethnicity, to achieve a united, diverse workforce. Thank you to the EDI Team for putting on the event.
The conference aims to use narratives and stories to continue to build on organisational change, and encourage shifts in understanding and beliefs while enabling dialogues around race in a psychologically safe space.
Similar to previous conferences, highly engaging narratives from personal experiences were shared with the audience. One of the aims of the conference is to help all staff recognise and celebrate the contributions that each is able to make, regardless of ethnicity, to achieve a united diverse workforce, which will help to provide better patient experience.
