Trust wins HSJ Patient Safety Award for End of Life Care

Congratulations to our End of Life Working Party which has won End of Life Care Initiative of the Year at the HSJ Patient Safety Awards.

Chief Nurse Vanessa Smith said: "Huge congratulations to Dementia Clinical Nurse Specialist Nykki Hetherton and the End of Life Working Party for achieving this award. It’s testament to their fantastic work in supporting staff to feel more confident about End of Life Care and Advance Care Planning, in particular during the Covid-19 pandemic".

Nykki Hetherton, who chairs the End of Life Working Party, said:

"This award was for the resources we created for mental health staff during the pandemic, including updating the Trust End of Life policy, running a series of webinars, creating a resource page on Maud, ensuring Care of Deceased boxes are available at the hospital sites and producing a training video with Maudsley Simulation. We are incredibly proud that our work has been recognised in this way, and we plan to take this forward in the future to increase accessibility of these resources. All of this has been part of our wider remit of work, which is co-produced with service users and carers, to improve End of life Care for people who use our services and their carers, as well as supporting staff."

Well done also to colleagues who were shortlisted at the HSJ Patient Safety Awards in the following categories: Infection Prevention and Control, Improving Care for Older People Initiative of the Year, Mental Health Initiative of the Year and Changing Culture.
